With the question whether seeing at a distance is a fact I need not occupy myself here, since I have already examined this question in an earlier work and answered it yes.¹⁾ There too various methods used so far for producing visions at a distance artificially are discussed, which however are subject to various drawbacks and misgivings; I promised, though, that when I came to treat of magic I would go more closely into the question whether there is a method of subjecting seeing at a distance and its direction to the will, by which the drawbacks of the methods used so far would be removed while their advantages were kept and perhaps could be increased.
