These Terms

These terms apply to purchases, preorders, and memberships made through thethinkingpress.org, and to use of the site. The seller is The Thinking Press, Kenosha, Wisconsin. Books bought from other booksellers are sold under those booksellers’ own terms.

Prices and Payment

Prices are in US dollars and are shown before you pay. Payment is taken securely by Stripe. Stripe sends a receipt to the email address you check out with.

Shipping

Every book sold through this site ships free. We will tell you when your order ships.

What a Physical Copy Includes

Every physical copy bought through this site includes the corresponding ebook and audiobook, where the press has one, and a free month of Club membership. They are added to the Club account with the email address you check out with; if you have no account yet, they wait for you until you join with that address. The ebook and audiobook are yours to keep, to read and hear in your Club library and to download. If you are already a paying member, your next renewal moves back a month instead.

Preorders and Deposits

Some editions, such as the Nietzsche Set, are preordered with a deposit of half the price. The balance is invoiced when the edition is ready to ship. If you wish to cancel a preorder, write to us before production of your edition begins and we will refund your deposit in full; once production has begun, deposits are not refundable. If an edition is delayed, we will tell you.

Digital Purchases

An audiobook or other download is available as soon as it is paid for, and digital purchases are not refundable. If a file is faulty or will not download, write to us and we will fix it.

Returns

If a book arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, write to us within thirty days and we will replace it or refund you.

The Thinking Press Club

A Club account is free. Paid membership renews automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account page; your membership continues to the end of the period you have paid for, and is not refunded for the part that remains. If we change the price, we will tell you before your next renewal.

Members may listen to the audiobooks and read the ebooks in the members’ library, in the browser, for their own personal use while their membership lasts. Membership does not include copies to download or keep; those are sold separately, and members receive the discount on them. Recording, copying, or sharing what the library streams is not permitted. Members receive a discount on purchases through the site, except limited books and sets, which are sold at their stated price. Early preorder access to limited books and sets means the chance to order before they are offered to everyone; it does not guarantee a copy.

Founding Readers, and Charter Members, whose accounts were created before the date stated on the Club page, keep every perk of paid membership for good, without paying, for as long as the Club offers those perks.

Executive Membership is a lifetime standing granted at the founder's sole judgment. A member may apply for it with a full deposit of $500, taken through Stripe. If the application is declined, the deposit is returned in full; if it is accepted, the deposit is the price of the lifetime Executive Membership and is not refundable.

What Readers Write

Reviews, messages, and posts on Esoterica are the words of the readers who write them, not of the press, and each reader is responsible for their own. Posts on public boards are public: anyone may read them, and search engines may show them. By posting, you let the press show what you wrote on the site; you keep your rights in it. Reviews are read before they appear, and the press may decline to publish one.

Esoterica keeps three rules, published at its guidelines: sexuality is discussed only as the psychology of sexuality or in reference to non-pornographic literature; nothing unlawful (threats, anything sexualizing a minor, the sale of illegal goods, or someone’s private information posted without consent); and no spam. You must be eighteen or older to use it. Moderators may remove messages or boards on their own discernment, always with a stated reason. A board’s keeper may appeal its removal once, with their reasons and evidence; a different moderator decides, and that decision is final. The press may pause the writing of an account that breaks these rules, in Messages and on Esoterica alike. Anything that appears to sexualize a minor is reported to the authorities.

An edited message keeps its earlier versions, which any reader of it can see. Files sent on a public board can be opened by anyone who can read it; send nothing you do not have the right to share. Translations, summaries, and voice transcripts are made by machine and can be wrong: the messages themselves are what was said. The automatic check that raises messages for the moderators decides nothing; every removal is a moderator’s decision.

If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, write to us through Public Inquiries with the address of the page and the work concerned, and we will remove it while we look into it.

Executive Members

Executive Membership is granted by the press, at its discretion, and carries every perk of paid membership while it lasts. The press may grant or withdraw it at any time.

Use of the Site

The texts, translations, plates as reproduced, and other content of this site belong to The Thinking Press or are used with permission. You may read, quote briefly with credit, and cite them; please ask before republishing them.

The Materia Medica is a work of history. It describes what past ages believed about substances, several of them poisonous, and nothing in it is medical advice or a recommendation to prepare or take anything.
