Thus Spake Zarathustra
Friedrich Nietzsche, 1883–1885 · the Thomas Common translation
Thus Spake Zarathustra needs little introduction, yet it is rarely given the physical treatment its ambitions call for. This edition presents Thomas Common's classic English translation, the version through which generations of English-speaking readers first met Zarathustra's descent from the mountain.
It appears as the first volume of a three-volume Nietzsche set, alongside Beyond Good and Evil and a short companion volume of psychological commentary, On the Psychology of Friedrich Nietzsche's Sibling Masterworks.
The set will be offered in two editions, printed and bound as a matched trio in a dedicated slipcase built to fit the three volumes precisely: a hardcover set, not limited in number, at $450, and a Limited Leather Set, bound in genuine Franz Hoffman calfskin and capped at fifty numbered copies, at $1,250.
In the Limited Leather Set, this volume is bound in red calfskin, with raised ridges across the spine, its lettering stamped in gold foil, and The Thinking Press emblem stamped on both the front and back covers.
Of the fifty Leather Set copies, a handful are reserved outside of general sale, including copies I and L, held for anonymous collectors, and a deposit copy reserved for the Library of Congress.
See the special editions page for the full set, its craftsmanship, and how to pre-order.
