What The Thinking Press is, and what you can do on this site, in plain words.
The Thinking Press is a publisher in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It makes books, and it keeps a library of old medicine and symbols that anyone can read here, free.
It publishes books
Its own books of psychology and philosophy, and new English translations of older works: from Nietzsche to sixteenth- and seventeenth-century works on exorcism, healing, and alchemy, some of them in English for the first time.
One book is out now, An History Beside Time. 8 more are on the way. The next, On the Manner of Discerning and Healing the Bewitched, comes out on October 15, 2026.
It keeps a free library
The Materia Medica describes 476 herbs, minerals, and remedies of old medicine: a picture of each, its old names, what it was used for, and what is known about it today. The Symbolarium does the same for blessed objects, amulets, and the symbols of the mind. The basic entry for every one is free to read.
These pages describe history. They are not medical advice.

You can read before you buy
The Reading Room holds every passage the press has opened to readers: excerpts to read in full, pictures to look at, and a free demo to keep.
You can join the Club
A free account lets you talk with other readers on the message boards and write to them. Paying members also hear the press’s audiobooks, read its ebooks, and read the whole of the Materia Medica, with its sources. Until January 1, 2027, every new account that confirms its email gets all of that, free, for good.
