The address

https://thethinkingpress.org/mcp

How to add it

  1. In Claude, open the settings for connectors and choose to add a custom connector.
  2. Name it The Thinking Press, and give it the address above.
  3. Save it. No account and no sign-in are needed.

Then ask, for example: “What did the old herbals say about mandrake? Use The Thinking Press.” or “What might a snake in a dream mean, in Jung’s terms?” The same address works in any program that speaks the Model Context Protocol.

What Claude can do with it

  • Search the press: every book, translation, entry, symbol, thinker, term and moment on the site.
  • Read a page in full, as text.
  • Look up an entry of the Materia Medica by its common, Latin or other name, and read it with its sources.
  • Look up a symbol in the Symbols of the Psyche.
  • Browse a collection: the kinds of the Materia Medica and their entries, the poisonings, the symbols by kind, the translations, the glossary by letter.
  • Read a translation: see a book’s chapters and read one.
  • Define a term as the press’s glossary does.
  • Cite a page in Chicago, MLA or APA style, or as BibTeX or RIS.

Every page it reads comes with the sources the page names, and what the press read of each. Claude also offers four ready-made requests: a plant in the old herbals, a dream and its symbols, reading a translation, and citing a page.

For members: the members’ connector

If you have an account, add this address instead:

https://thethinkingpress.org/mcp/member

Claude will ask you to sign in to the press and to allow it. From then on it reads the press as you do, with everything your membership opens: the translations in full, the full entries and symbols, the abstracts of the sources. It still cannot see your account, journal, messages, classes or payments, nor other readers’ posts beyond what any visitor sees, and it changes nothing. On it, define_term also gives the definitions members read on pointing at a technical word. You can see and disconnect it at any time under Connected apps.

What it does not do

The open connector reads only what a visitor without an account can read here: parts kept for Club members stay on the site, for members. Neither connector changes or writes anything. And what they read is historical description, not medical advice.

It keeps no record of what is asked or who asks it; the press counts only how many times each of its tools is used each day.

For developers

The endpoints speak the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP, statelessly: revision 2026-07-28, and the revisions from 2025-03-26 to 2025-11-25 through initialize. /mcp needs no authorization. /mcp/member is an OAuth 2.1 protected resource: it answers 401 with its protected-resource metadata, and this site is its authorization server, with PKCE (S256), Client ID Metadata Documents and dynamic registration. Both offer the same eight read-only tools (search, fetch, lookup_materia_medica, lookup_symbol, browse, read_translation, define_term and cite, with output schemas where the answer is data) and four prompts. Pages a visitor sees are kept for an hour, so an answer may be up to an hour behind the site.
