Where the Projects Stand, October 18
A note on everything in hand at the press, for those who like to follow the work as it goes. If progress notes are not for you, the button at the foot of this post hides them.
The books. On the Manner of Discerning and Healing the Bewitched, Floriano Canale's treatise of 1614, came out on October 15 in its first English translation: a 6 by 9 inch cloth hardcover with dust jacket, 250 pages, with a 92-page glossary in full color, at $64.99, and as an ebook at $19.99.
The Magical World of the Heroes, Cesare della Riviera's book of 1605, follows on October 25. The translation and its front matter are finished; the back matter is about halfway compiled, with the final formatting and editing still to do. It will be a hardcover of 300 to 350 pages at $79.99, with the ebook at $19.99 on Kindle and an audiobook to follow.
Menghi's The Cudgel of Demons and Scherner's Discoveries in the Realm of the Soul are translated and in production. An History Beside Time has a second edition in preparation, and The Wisdom of Catastrophe and the Nietzsche set are still to come.
The Translations. Eight works are now on the site in English for the first time, read in full by Charter and paying members, with free parts for everyone: Durante's New Herbal (1585), della Riviera's Magical World of the Heroes (1605), Scherner's Life of the Dream (1861), Silberer's Chance and the Goblin Tricks of the Unconscious (1921), both parts of du Prel's Magic as Natural Science (1899), Schubert's Symbolism of Dreams (1814), and Kerner's Kleksographs (1890).
The Materia Medica and the Symbolarium. The Materia Medica holds 579 entries, and plates are still being found for the newest hundred: 86 have one so far, each checked for its licence and its species before it goes up. The Symbolarium holds 333 entries, 82 ritual objects and 251 symbols of the psyche.
The Club. Until January 1, 2027, everyone who makes an account and confirms their email becomes a Charter Member and keeps every perk of paid membership for good, free. Charter, paying and Executive Members now have two assistants in Messages: the Press's Claude, for questions about the press and the site, and Your Claude, a private one for your own dreams, Journal and notes. Executive Members can give a series of five or more dreams to the press's Dream Series, anonymously unless they choose to sign it; none has been published yet.
On Bluesky. The press posts there through the day, from the Materia Medica, the Symbolarium and the books, and passed a hundred followers this week: https://bsky.app/profile/thethinkingpress.bsky.social
